broccoli and tahini salad

Broccoli and tahini salad for a late season bbq and perimenopause

Why for perimenopause?

Since I’ve been premenopausal, I’ve craved raw broccoli and tahini. This salad is the result, but I do hope it also tastes good to un-perimenopausal people. Broccoli is full of fibre, folate, vitamins C and K, as well as glucosinlates that react with oestrogen metabolism and have anti-inflammatory effects. Tahini, on the other hand, contains essential fats and phytoestrogens, which mimic estrogen in the body. It all makes sense when you look at the nutrition.

Not just any old salad

A broccoli and tahini salad isn’t like a few leaves and tomatoes kinda salad. This one leaves you feeling satiated. You could probably eat it for lunch with a little protein, such as chicken or salmon, and you would be satisfied for a good few hours. I made it for a late season bbq. I tend to make a simple salad of green leaves with a delicious vinaigrette and then something more substantial, like a slaw, or this.

I tend to use organic vegetables as much as possible, and my favourite tahini is from Belazu. I tend to buy it when it’s on offer, as it’s a bit pricey, but difficult to go back once you’ve tried it! (I’m not paid to say that, it’s just really very good). I hope you enjoy this salad and stay tuned for more perimenopausal food.
